About our kain pelikat collection

A kain pelikat is a men's sarong sewn into a tube: you step into it and fold it at the waist, with no tie and no button. It is worn for prayer, at the mosque, for sleeping and around the house. Our range covers Gajah Duduk, Atlas, Mangga and Chop Peti Surat, along with Indian weaves such as Chop Kuda, Chop Krusi, Chop Lembu and Chop Ringgit Mas. Everything is stocked at our shop in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

The number on the label — benang 5000, benang 7000 — is the thread count of the weave. Our range runs from 1200 to 15000. A higher count means a denser weave, a heavier cloth, a cleaner drape and colour that survives repeated washing. Premium lines such as the Gajah Duduk 7000 Premium Class and the Ultimate Premium Silky sit at the top of that range.

Start from how it will be worn. For daily wear at home, a low to middling thread count is enough: it is lighter and dries faster. For the mosque, a gathering or a gift, take a higher count — the pattern is sharper and the cloth is heavier. Checks and stripes sell fastest, and we also stock plain and multicoloured weaves.

Kain pelikat comes in one standard adult size and needs no measurement. We also stock children's sizes. Most of the range is cotton, so it absorbs sweat and stays comfortable in the heat. Wash in cold water, do not bleach, and dry in the shade so the colour holds.

Frequently Asked Questions

The benang number is the thread count of the weave. The higher the number, the denser the weave. A high-count cloth is heavier, the pattern is sharper, and the colour holds better through repeated washing. Our range runs from 1200 to 15000.

For daily wear at home and for prayer, 1000 to 3000 is enough: the cloth is lighter and dries faster. 5000 and above is usually chosen for Friday prayer, Hari Raya or as a gift, because the cloth is heavier and holds a neater fold.

No, we are not an official Gajah Duduk stockist. We sell Gajah Duduk kain pelikat across several collections, including Hitam Putih, Infinity, Ultimate Premium Silky, Asia Kembang and Signature. Every piece is genuine and sourced through authorised distributors.

Yes. We stock children's kain pelikat, including Indonesian weaves. They are shorter than the adult size. Check the individual product page for the sizes in stock, or WhatsApp us your child's age and we will suggest one.

Wash by hand or on a gentle machine cycle in cold water. Keep dark pieces apart from light ones on the first wash. Do not bleach, do not wring hard, and dry in the shade. Iron on a medium setting if needed.
